To get an HCPA vaccine license, a manufacturer must undergo the entire licensure process. This includes obtaining approval from the FDA, which can take years or even decades. Varicella, for example, took 11 years to receive its license. The process is very complex and must follow all FDA guidelines, including the development of an efficacious safety profile. Here are some tips to help you navigate the HCPA vaccine licensing process.

HCPA vaccine manufacturers should conduct clinical trials with adequate representation of the population, including elderly persons, people with medical comorbidities, pregnant women, and individuals with childbearing potential. The FDA recommends that vaccine manufacturers obtain data from independent data safety monitoring boards to detect potential safety signals. In addition, the number of subjects receiving the COVID-19 vaccine in pre-licensure clinical trials may be insufficient to detect potential adverse effects. Furthermore, the number of pre-licensure clinical studies may not be sufficient to detect adverse reactions, especially in pregnant and medically compromised individuals.
